અક્ષરધામ ' શાબ્દિક અર્થ એ છે કે ભગવાનનો દૈવી નિવાસ. ભક્તિ માટે અને અનંત શાંતિનો અનુભવ કરવા માટે તે એક શાશ્વત સ્થાન છે. ગાંધીનગરમાં સ્વામિનારાયણ અક્ષરધામ એક મંદિર છે - પૂજાના હિન્દુ ઘર , ભગવાન માટે નિવાસસ્થાન , અને ભક્તિ , શિક્ષણ અને એકીકરણ માટે સમર્પિત આધ્યાત્મિક અને સાંસ્કૃતિક કેમ્પસ. કાલ્પનિક ભક્તિમય સંદેશાઓ અને ગતિશીલ હિન્દુ પરંપરાઓ તેની આર્ટ અને સ્થાપત્યમાં પ્રતિબિંબિત થાય છે. મંદિર સ્વામિનારાયણ ( 1781-1830) અને હિન્દુ ધર્મના અવતાર , દેવો અને સંતો માટે નમ્ર શ્રદ્ધાંજલિ છે. આ પરંપરાગત ઢબનું સંકુલ એચ.એચ. મુખ્ય સ્વામી મહારાજની આશીર્વાદ અને કુશળ કારીગરો અને સ્વયંસેવકોના નિષ્ઠાપૂર્વક પ્રયાસો દ્વારા 30 ઓક્ટોબર , 1992 ના રોજ ઉદઘાટન કરવામાં આવ્યું હતું. અક્ષરધામનો દરેક તત્વ આધ્યાત્મિકતા સાથે આવે છે - મંદિર , પ્રદર્શનો અને બગીચા પણ. અક્ષરધામ મંદિરમાં 200 થી વધુ મુર્તિઓ (મૂર્તિઓ) છે , જે અનેક હજાર વર્ષથી આધ્યાત્મિક શાસકોનું પ્રતિનિધિત્વ કરે છે. અક્ષરધામનું આધ્યાત્મિક સ્થાન એ છે કે દરેક આત્મા સંભવતઃ દૈવી છે. ભલે આપણે કુટુંબ , આપણા પડોશીઓ , દેશ અથવા સમગ્ર વિશ્વમાં લોકોની ...

Shastriji Maharaj was  third spiritual successor of Bhagwan Swaminarayan and formalized the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha. Born as Dungar Bhakta in Mahelav, he was known from a young age for his strong conviction in Bhagwan Swaminarayan, His philosophy, and His spiritual successors. Shastriji Maharaj’s true conviction was displayed in the way he lived his life, even as a child. One night, he went out to the farm in the thickness of night. Though all of the town’s children were scared to walk down the dimly lit road to the fields, Dungar Bhakta was not worried. When his father asked him why he was not afraid, Dungar Bhakta replied that he had nothing to fear if he was chanting the Swaminarayan mantra. Dungar Bhakta displayed a sharp sense of intellect from a young age. Born as Pragji Bhakta in Mahuva, Bhagatji Maharaj was the second spiritual successor of Bhagwan Swaminarayan. As a young child, he encouraged his friends to engage in devotion to God and was a role model for others in the village, both young and old. Pragji Bhakta spent much of his time at the Swaminarayan mandir in Mahuva, where he met Gopalanand Swami, a senior paramhansa of Bhagwan Swaminarayan. After this initial meeting, Pragji Bhakta became interested in furthering his understanding of Bhagwan Swaminarayan and His philosophy. He developed a close relationship with Gopalanand Swami, who before passing away told Pragji Bhakta to go to Junagadh and stay with his guru, Gunatitanand Swami. Yogiji Maharaj emphasized the importance of regular satsang for every age group. He initiated weekly Sunday sabha at every BAPS mandir and center. He also began the bal, kishore, and yuvak mandals that offered special assemblies for youths. Yogiji Maharaj passed away in 1971 in Mumbai after naming Pramukh Swami Maharaj as his spiritual successor.

Yogiji Maharaj was appointed the mahant of Gondal mandir where he remained until Shastriji Maharaj appointed him as his spiritual successor before passing away in 1951. As spiritual head of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, Yogiji Maharaj traveled outside India to East Africa and England,  establishing mandals overseas. He opened five mandirs in East Africa and one in London. He also sent four sadhus to North America, and also remarked that Pramukh Swami would visit America in few years to open a temple.
